Best movies like Life After Beth

1. Zombieland (2009)

Zombieland is probably my favorite zombie dark comedy, and it’s definitely one of the most popular ones out there.

The movie follows a group of four survivors – Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Wichita (Emma Stone), and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) — as they attempt to make their way across America in the midst of a zombie apocalypse

I love that this film is not afraid to mix things up and go for the jugular. One minute you’re laughing hysterically, and the next you’re on the edge of your seat waiting for the next gruesome death scene. It’s a perfect balance of hilarity and horror.

2. Happy Death Day (2017)

Happy Death Day is a slasher film with a unique twist.

The movie follows Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe), a college student who’s forced to relive the day of her murder over and over again. It’s a concept that’s been done before in movies like Groundhog Day, but Happy Death Day takes it to the next level by adding in a healthy dose of horror.

I found this film enjoyable because it was so different from anything I’d ever seen before. If you’re looking for movies like Life After Beth that are both scary and funny, this is a flick for you.

3. Shaun of the Dead (2004)

Shaun of the Dead is another excellent zombie comedy, and it’s definitely one of the most well-known films on this list.

The movie follows Shaun (Simon Pegg), a man who’s attempting to get his life together after he’s dumped by his girlfriend. When a zombie apocalypse breaks out, Shaun must use all of his wit and cunning to survive.

This film is chock-full of laughs, but it also has its fair share of gore and scares. If you’re looking for a zom-rom-com that’s sure to entertain, Shaun of the Dead is must-watch.

4. Warm Bodies (2013)

Warm Bodies is a unique take on the zombie genre, and it’s one of the best romantic comedies I’ve ever seen.

The movie follows R (Nicholas Hoult), a zombie who falls in love with a human girl named Julie (Teresa Palmer). As their weird relationship blossoms, R begins to change. If you’re looking for a heartwarming film that’s a bit of a dark romantic comedy, then I think you’ll love watching this one.

I recently re-watched it and man is it adorable — a bit cheesy, but it’s worth it!

5. The Babysitter (2017)

I LOVED The Babysitter. It’s a classic slasher mixed with some goofy but well-done comedy.

It follows a young boy named Cole (Judah Lewis) who’s being babysat by his hot babysitter Bee (Samara Weaving). While trying to stay up past his bedtime to catch a glimpse of her, Cole discovers that Bee is part of a Satan-worshipping cult that plans to sacrifice him.

This film is hilariously gory, and it’s sure to keep you entertained from beginning to end. If you’re looking for movies like Life After Beth that are funny and gory, then The Babysitter is a must-see.

6. Ingrid Goes West (2017)

Another dark comedy featuring Aubrey Plaza is Ingrid Goes West.

This film is about a woman named Ingrid (Plaza) who becomes obsessed with Instagram influencer Taylor Sloane (Elizabeth Olsen). Ingrid then moves to Los Angeles to try and become friends with Taylor, but things quickly spiral out of control.

I loved this film because it was so dark and twisted. It’s a perfect blend of comedy and drama, and it’s sure to keep you entertained.

7. How to Be a Serial Killer (2008)

How to Be a Serial Killer is a black comedy that’s both funny and disturbing.

The film follows Bart (Matthew Gray Gubler), a young man who seems relatively normal – until you find out that he’s a serial killer. Bart then meets Milo (Robert Englund), an experienced serial killer, who takes him under his wing and teaches him the ropes.

8. Freaky (2020)

I really enjoy Freaky, and I think it’s one of the best slasher films I’ve seen in recent years.

The movie follows a high school girl named Millie (Kathryn Newton) who’s possessed by a serial killer called “The Butcher” (Vince Vaughn). As The Butcher, Millie must go on a killing spree to satisfy his hunger. This film is gory, funny, and just all-around enjoyable.

If you’re looking for a movie that’s similar to Scream but with a bit more of a comedic edge, then I think you’ll love Freaky.

9. Jennifer’s Body (2009)

Jennifer’s Body is a dark comedy, but for me it’s a bit more on the horror side.

This flick follows high schooler Jennifer (Megan Fox) who becomes possessed by a demon. Demon Jennifer starts to kill classmates and it’s up to her BFF Needy (Amanda Seyfried) to stop her. This movie is pretty gory, and it’s sure to keep you entertained.

If you’re looking for a funny horror film with some great kills, then Jennifer’s Body is a good choice.

10. Ready or Not (2019)

Ready or Not is probably one of my favorite recent horror flicks. It’s more slasher-than-comedy, but manages to marry the two into a truly well-made flick.

The story follows a young woman named Grace (Samara Weaving) who marries into a wealthy family. On her wedding night, Grace must play a deadly game of hide and seek, and if she’s caught, she’ll be killed.

This film is full of suspense, and it’s sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. Ready or Not is the ideal pick if you want something that’s bloody with well-timed laughs.

11. Scream (1996)

On the other hand, Scream hits WAY more on the side of comedy. It’s a true classic in the horror genre, and it’s still just as entertaining today as it was when it first came out.

The story follows a group of teens who are being stalked by a killer in a Ghostface costume. This cult film is the classic spooky spoof. It still has suspense but married those with some good laughs.

There are A LOT of Scream films, I’d recommend sticking to the first one or two, they get a little repetitive later on. However, there is a new one that I admit I haven’t seen yet, so it could be good…

12. What We Do In The Shadows (2014)

What We Do In The Shadows is a mockumentary-style film that follows a group of vampires who live together in New Zealand.

Done by the same team that brought us Flight of the Conchords, this film is both funny and clever. The movie is hilarious, but it also has some great special effects and make-up. It really focuses on the comedy aspect, but adds a bit of horror edge.

If you want something clever and funny, I think you’ll enjoy What We Do In The Shadows.

13. The Addams Family (1991)

The Addams Family is a bit of an oddball choice, but I think it’s a great film for Halloween. It’s more on the comedic side, but it has some truly creepy moments.

The story follows the Addams family, a wealthy and eccentric family who live in a gothic mansion. The movie is funny and heartwarming, but it also has some seriously creepy moments.

If you’re looking for something that’s a bit different, but still festive, I think you’ll enjoy The Addams Family.

This film is full of suspense, and it’s sure to keep you entertained. If suspense is what gets you going, you’ll really enjoy Don’t Breathe.

15. Saw (2004)

Saw is a classic in the horror genre, and it’s still just as suspenseful today as it was when it first came out.

The story follows a group of people who are kidnapped and forced to play a deadly game by a madman known as Jigsaw. This film is full of suspense, and it’s sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

If you’re looking for a scary movie that will keep you guessing, I think you’ll enjoy Saw… but be warned it’s VERY graphic.
